He’s a master at integrating iconic, beloved, and familiar characters and doing something new and interesting with them. Every time he releases something new I buy it on opening day because he’s a consistently great and interesting writer. When you get in that mood for "something different," this series fits the bill perfectly. This book is so much fun, it'll make you want to learn more to see how it fits together. If you don't know any of it, don't let that scare you away. The more you know about classic literature and World War I history, the better it gets as there's a lot of geekery to be had. Like Anno Dracula before it, this book is a lot of fun. It makes the experience that much better when you have a quality narrator across an entire series. I was happy to have him back for this one. This performance is easily as good as the one he offered for Anno Dracula. Have you listened to any of William Gaminara’s other performances before? How does this one compare? The only thing I could compare this too is the rest of Anno Dracula line and other works that toe the Wold Newton line such as Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. What other book might you compare The Bloody Red Baron to and why? The depth of the presented world forces me to constantly look things up if I'm using the print copy, but the audio version allows me to just enjoy the story for what it is. But it is a great companion to the print version. Would you consider the audio edition of The Bloody Red Baron to be better than the print version?īetter? No.

Despite its setting, there really isn't much sci-fi here: Resnick provides very little description, choosing instead to allow the dialogue and a bit of expository third-person omniscient narrative to do the work. Through Black Orpheus, it is easy to grow fond of the universe Resnick has created for us. Perhaps one of Resnick's most clever creations is Black Orpheus, a space-bound incarnation of the ancient Greek ballad singer who incorporates all of *Santiago*'s zany characters into a song about the frontier, portions of which are shared with the reader at the beginning of each chapter. At times, Santiago is just plain bad, but it can also be a lot of fun, sometimes surprisingly so. Santiago is the pulpy science fiction equivalent of an Wild West manhunt with spaceships taking the part of horses, laser pistols standing in for six shooters, and aliens playing the role of the Indians (in one instance, quite literally). To address this foreign body, she calls upon the readerly pleasures of narrative, critical feminist and queer thinking, and the concentrated language of lyric poetry. She writes about a body shot through with neurological pain, disoriented in time and space, incapacitated by paralysis and deadened sensation. In A Body, Undone, Crosby puts into words a broken body that seems beyond the reach of language and understanding. Her chin took the full force of the blow, and her head snapped back. As she crested a hill, she caught a branch in the spokes of her bicycle, which instantly pitched her to the pavement. She was a respected senior professor of English who had celebrated her fiftieth birthday a month before. In the early evening on October 1, 2003, Christina Crosby was three miles into a seventeen mile bicycle ride, intent on reaching her goal of 1,000 miles for the riding season. If you haven’t read her books yet, fix that immediately.) She noted that her inspiration for writing The Lonely Hearts Hotel came partly from her dad, who was one of nine (!) boys raised in Montreal single-handedly by her grandmother after his father passed away. (I’m not kidding about the brain-tickling gorgeousness, by the way. O’Neill, known for her brain-ticklingly gorgeous writing, is a veteran of the Ottawa International Writers Festival and easily warmed up the crowd with a few anecdotes before her reading. It was a packed house on Friday night to see Heather O’Neill and Mary Walsh at the Christ Church Cathedral-and well worth the short wait in line. Like The French Lieutenant's Woman, the novel explores and exposes the stifling confines of Victorian society, especially upon women. Dracula in Love is a sensual fantasy feast, a flight of the imagination, a darkly rich pleasure. As a result, I would describe the second novel of this amazing trilogy as a roller coaster of emotions. Elizabeth Evans was generally good through the narration of Crown of Midnight. The majority of people enjoyed her A Court of Thorns and Roses and Throne of Glass novels. I found it extremely difficult to put down Crown of Midnight as I felt like every time I got to a point where I could, a new secret was revealed. Maas who has been entertaining YA romance lovers with temping novels over the years. Maas delivers a strong sequel that offers hard hitting and jaw-dropping revelations throughout. Celaenas story continues in this second book in the 1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. However, Chaol really seemed to struggle with who Calaena really was in this novel which left me wondering whether he was the one? Dorian, the Crown Prince and a close confidante began to mature and grow as a person - this somewhat brought him and Calaena closer together. Chaol, Calaena’s love interest in the novel is someone I very much championed for in Throne of Glass, because he had this sense of simplicity and warmth about him that made him highly attractive. One thing I found whilst reading Crown of Midnight was that my opinions on the characters had changed from Throne of Glass, as true colours began to show and characters started to unravel. One that requires unearthing all the dark secrets the king has tried so hard to bury and facing her past. However, Calaena is being driven by her own personal agenda. The author describes how intense emotions. For me, these poems came across like mini mantras or snippets of advice that ask you to concentrate on the “why” behind the way you act and react (it’s kind of like a minor form of cognitive behavior therapy minus the licensed professional and in book form?) If you want a taste of what is in this book you only have to read Yung Pueblo’s tweets. A collection of poetry and short prose focused on understanding how past wounds impact our present relationships. This book may be ideal for anyone who may be struggling with trust issues or security in their relationship as it may give you a lot to think about. Although there are many great lessons in these pages on relationships and on one’s self, the poems are redundant and come across a little too much like a “self-help-guide” for my liking and definitely not what I want in a book of poetry.
